2017 was a jam-packed year for us! We took part in a lot of events we are very proud of and wanted recap everything we have achieved.
We kicked off 2017 with a visit from aspiring Soca Travis, who is also a friend of our band manager Chris. He composed a song called ‘Trinidad’ that he wanted to record Nation playing. We were also filmed at rehearsal, showing off our vibes and skill as per usual.
We played multiple gigs last year, including weddings which have been fun and, allowed us to expand our repertoire through special requests from the brides and grooms.
However, the most memorable local gig by far was at fundraiser for a boy called Adam. This was an event organised to help raise money for his life-changing surgery and to raise awareness of children with disabilities and complex needs.
The summer was unquestionably the busiest time of year for us as a band. We competed in the CAPCA/BAS UK Junior Steel Band Panorama Competition 2017 for the first time ever and came second! This is an incredible achievement that we are extremely proud of. We would love to continue to stretch ourselves by taking part in similar competitions next year. We continued to have an amazing summer by hosting our annual North London Blockorama. For this event, we invited a variety of UK steel bands to get together and perform a selection from their wonderful set lists. It was a perfect family friendly day, with delicious food and drink and some of the best musical vibes. It was so lovely to get to hang out with our pan peers from Ebony steel band, Croydon Steel Orchestra and London All Stars Steel band, lots of fun was had. We ended off our summer by traveling to Leeds to take part in the 50th Leeds West Indian Carnival! It was a fun packed weekend that left us happily exhausted. We are grateful that we were able to take part in such a long-standing tradition.

In October, one of our Tenor players, Aaron Davidson, entered Pan Clash and came a respectiable 3rd place. We are proud of his achievement and hope that he continues to grow as a musician.
Even though summer ended it did not mean that we stopped working. We contiuned gigging for our home team Tottenham Hotspurs at their Wembley matches (#COYS!).
Finally, to round off our 2017, we had our Winter Concert. This year it was bigger and better than ever with some amazing raffle prizes. Our theme was red white and black, the colours of the Trinidad and Tobago flag. We had lots of fun dressing up and showing off. We are extemmely proud of what our adult beginners, adult intermediate and main band have achieved so far. Also a thanks to our special guest, Jo Money, who gave a livley performance of 2 of her orginal tracks and to Mr Gibson our technician who did an amazing job with the lights and smoke machine!!!!
We were also raising money for the charity #Initwithyou. This was set up after the untimely death of one of Pan Nation’s biggest and well-respected fans, Teresa Mitchell. The money raised will go towards helping children with disabilities get the help they need to reach their full potential. We would really appreciate if you could help support the charity by going to https://www.initwithyou.co.uk/shop.
Thank you for being on this journey with Pan Nation. We hope that you will continue to follow our progress into 2018.
